A couple of weeks ago we saw how Microsoft announced Project xCloud , a platform for streaming video games for smartphones. The idea of this product, similar to that announced by Google with Assassin’s Creed Oddisey , is that games are processed in the cloud and the resulting video is downloaded to the mobile, reducing the hardware needed to play in high quality. The idea is kind of uninteresting, but playing console games on a smartphone can be tricky without good controls .
Although mobile gaming is in style, there are many people who still think that touch controls are far from optimal. That is why the latest Microsoft patent makes sense, and that the guys at Microsoft Research have registered a kind of Xbox controls that are coupled to the phone and make it a kind of Nintendo Switch.
